BD311 is a gene therapy drug developed for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD). It is designed as a one-time administration that enables long-term expression of an anti-VEGF-A antibody in retinal pigment epithelium cells. By increasing VEGF-A antibody expression, BD311 neutralizes vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activity, thereby inhibiting abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage associated with wAMD. The therapy uses suprachoroidal delivery to target the retina and aims to reduce or eliminate the need for frequent intravitreal injections required by current anti-VEGF therapies[1][2].
