BDDE-crosslinked sodium hyaluronate is a stabilized, high-molecular-weight derivative of hyaluronic acid (HA) produced by the covalent cross-linking of HA chains with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE). This chemical modification creates a three-dimensional hydrogel network that is significantly more resistant to enzymatic degradation by hyaluronidase and mechanical breakdown than native HA. In orthopedic applications, such as the product Hyruan-One, it is administered as a single intra-articular injection to treat knee osteoarthritis by restoring the viscoelasticity of the synovial fluid, providing lubrication, and acting as a shock absorber. In aesthetic medicine, it is the primary component of numerous dermal fillers (e.g., Restylane, Juvederm) used for soft tissue augmentation and wrinkle correction. While its primary mechanism is physical and mechanical, it also interacts biologically with cell surface receptors such as CD44.
