BEBT-733 is a kidney-targeted small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by Guangzhou BeBetter Medicine Technology for the treatment of renal anemia and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Utilizing the company's proprietary Peptide-Oligonucleotide Conjugates (POCs) platform, BEBT-733 is designed to selectively deliver siRNA to proximal tubule epithelial cells (PTECs) in the kidney. The drug targets EGLN1 (also known as Prolyl Hydroxylase Domain-containing protein 2 or PHD2), an enzyme responsible for the degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF). By inhibiting EGLN1, BEBT-733 stabilizes HIF, which in turn promotes erythropoiesis and helps mitigate kidney injury. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to reduce EGLN1 mRNA levels and improve markers of kidney function and anemia, such as serum creatinine, urea, hemoglobin, and hematocrit levels.
