beclometasone dipropionate + formoterol

**Beclometasone dipropionate + formoterol** is an inhaled fixed-dose combination of an inhaled corticosteroid and a rapid-onset long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist. Beclometasone dipropionate is a prodrug converted in the airways to beclometasone-17-monopropionate, which activates glucocorticoid receptors to suppress airway inflammation. Formoterol activates beta-2 adrenergic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle to produce prolonged bronchodilation. Developed originally by Chiesi as CHF 1535, the combination is supplied in extrafine pressurised metered-dose inhalers and dry-powder inhalers for maintenance treatment of asthma and, in certain products and jurisdictions, symptomatic treatment of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
