Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Beclometasone intravitreal (AGN208397) is a formulation of the synthetic corticosteroid beclomethasone dipropionate developed for intravitreal injection. It was investigated for the treatment of macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion and other retinal disorders. The drug acts as an immunosuppressant and steroid receptor agonist, exerting anti-inflammatory effects by modulating gene expression through glucocorticoid receptors. Originally developed by Allergan (later acquired by AbbVie), clinical development reached phase I/II but was discontinued before approval[3][4][6].
