Overview
Beclomethasone 17-monopropionate is an active metabolite of the prodrug beclomethasone dipropionate. It is formed via hydrolysis by esterases after administration of the parent compound. Beclomethasone 17-monopropionate acts as a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist with high topical anti-inflammatory activity and significantly greater binding affinity for the human glucocorticoid receptor compared to dexamethasone and other corticosteroids. Its primary clinical use is as the active form responsible for the therapeutic effects of inhaled or intranasal corticosteroid products used in asthma and allergic rhinitis[1][2][5][7].
