Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Neokin is a topical triple-action cream developed by Stadchem for the treatment of mixed bacterial and fungal skin infections accompanied by inflammation. It is a fixed-dose combination containing the corticosteroid beclomethasone dipropionate, the imidazole antifungal miconazole nitrate, and the aminoglycoside antibiotic neomycin sulfate. Beclomethasone dipropionate acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to reduce redness, swelling, and itching. Miconazole nitrate inhibits lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase to disrupt fungal cell membrane synthesis, while neomycin sulfate binds to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit to inhibit protein synthesis. Neokin is indicated for inflammatory dermatoses complicated by secondary bacterial or fungal infections, such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, athlete's foot, and ringworm.
