becocalcidiol

Becocalcidiol is a novel vitamin D(3) analogue developed for the topical treatment of mild to moderate plaque-type psoriasis. It acts primarily as an agonist of the vitamin D receptor (VDR), exerting antiproliferative effects on keratinocytes and promoting epidermal cell differentiation. Clinical studies demonstrated that becocalcidiol was well tolerated with a low incidence of skin irritation and did not cause hypercalcaemia—a common side effect seen with other topical vitamin D analogues. Becocalcidiol reached Phase II clinical trials but further development appears to have been discontinued[1][6][5].
