Overview

Bedoradrine is a highly selective ultra-long acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist developed as a sympathomimetic and bronchodilator. It was investigated for the treatment of preterm labor, asthma (especially acute exacerbations unresponsive to standard inhaled therapy), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Bedoradrine acts by stimulating the beta-2 adrenergic receptor (ADRB2), leading to smooth muscle relaxation in airways and uterine tissue. The drug was primarily studied for intravenous administration. Despite promising selectivity and some improvement in dyspnea scores in clinical trials for acute asthma exacerbation, it did not show significant improvement in lung function over placebo at 3 hours post-administration. Development reached up to phase II clinical trials but the drug was never marketed[1][2][3][5][6][7].
