Bedrocan

Bedrocan is a standardized, pharmaceutical-grade medicinal cannabis product derived from the Cannabis sativa L. 'Afina' cultivar, developed and produced by the Dutch company Bedrocan since 2003[1][2]. It contains approximately 22% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and less than 1% cannabidiol (CBD)[1][5]. Bedrocan is used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient or raw material for medicines and is available only by prescription through pharmacies in several countries[2][4]. Its primary indications include chronic pain, appetite stimulation (especially in patients with anorexia or those undergoing chemotherapy), relief of nausea associated with cancer therapies, reduction of intraocular pressure in glaucoma, and management of symptoms related to multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia[5][6]. The mechanism of action involves activation of cannabinoid receptors—primarily CB1 and CB2—by THC, leading to modulation of neurotransmitter release that affects pain perception, appetite regulation, mood, nausea/vomiting control, muscle spasticity reduction, and intraocular pressure lowering.
