Overview
Bienengiftsalbe (Bee Venom Ointment) is a topical pharmaceutical product containing bee venom (apitoxin) derived from the honeybee, *Apis mellifera*. Marketed by medphano Arzneimittel, it is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions, including rheumatic diseases, arthrosis, and muscle or joint pain. The therapeutic efficacy of the ointment is attributed to the complex mixture of peptides (such as melittin and apamin) and enzymes (such as phospholipase A2) found in bee venom. These components exert anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and rubefacient effects; the latter increases local blood flow to the application site, which helps to reduce pain and promote healing in the underlying tissues.
