Bee venom phonophoresis is an investigational therapeutic intervention being studied at Sinai University for the management of knee osteoarthritis. This modality combines the topical application of bee venom (derived from *Apis mellifera*) with ultrasound technology to enhance the transdermal penetration of bioactive compounds into deeper tissues. The primary active components of bee venom, such as melittin and phospholipase A2, exert anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects by inhibiting pathways involving cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). The treatment is currently being evaluated in a randomized controlled trial to assess its efficacy in reducing pain and improving functional mobility and walking endurance in patients with moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis.
