Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Beetroot juice is a natural beverage made from the root of the beet plant (Beta vulgaris). It is rich in dietary nitrates, which are converted by the body into nitric oxide—a molecule that relaxes and dilates blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure. Beetroot juice contains antioxidants such as betalains and polyphenols with anti-inflammatory and potential anti-carcinogenic properties. It also provides vitamins (notably folate), minerals (such as potassium), fiber, and betaine. The primary indications for its use include supporting cardiovascular health (by lowering blood pressure), enhancing exercise performance through improved oxygen delivery to muscles, reducing inflammation, supporting liver function via betaine-mediated reduction of fat accumulation, and potentially providing chemoprotective effects during chemotherapy. Research also suggests possible benefits for cognitive function due to improved cerebral blood flow[1][2][3][4][5][7][9].
