Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BeiDouGen is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) derived from the dried rhizome of *Menispermum dauricum* DC. It is characterized by a high concentration of isoquinoline alkaloids, most notably dauricine, daurisoline, and sinomenine. Historically utilized for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-arrhythmic properties, BeiDouGen is currently being investigated in modern clinical trials for metabolic and reproductive indications. Specifically, it is being evaluated as an oral capsule or tablet, often in combination with the DPP-4 inhibitor sitagliptin, for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). In these contexts, it is hypothesized to improve insulin sensitivity, modulate glucose metabolism, and enhance ovarian function. Pharmacological studies suggest its effects are mediated through the antagonism of calcium channels and the inhibition of inflammatory signaling pathways such as NF-κB.
