BeloGal-busulfan

DBP121 is an organ-targeting formulation of the chemotherapy agent busulfan, developed by Double Bond Pharmaceutical using their proprietary BeloGal drug delivery platform. The BeloGal technology utilizes a specific carrier system designed to concentrate the active pharmaceutical ingredient specifically in the liver, thereby increasing local therapeutic efficacy while minimizing systemic toxicity and side effects. Busulfan, the active component, is a bifunctional alkylating agent that forms DNA-DNA intrastrand crosslinks, primarily at guanine sites. This cross-linking disrupts DNA replication and transcription, ultimately inducing apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. DBP121 is primarily being developed for the treatment of primary liver cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatoblastoma.
