Overview
Belopenem is a novel drug formulation developed by Double Bond Pharmaceutical, utilizing their proprietary BeloGal® platform to achieve lung-targeted delivery of the antibiotic Meropenem. Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including those causing severe infections such as meningitis, pneumonia, and sepsis. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. The BeloGal® platform aims to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of Meropenem by concentrating the drug in the lungs, potentially improving treatment outcomes for lung-related bacterial infections.
