Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bempegaldesleukin + atezolizumab is an experimental **combination immunotherapy** consisting of bempegaldesleukin (a PEGylated interleukin-2, code name NKTR-214) and atezolizumab (a monoclonal antibody targeting programmed death-ligand 1, PD-L1). Bempegaldesleukin selectively activates the IL-2 pathway through CD122, resulting in the proliferation and activation of CD8+ T cells and natural killer (NK) cells while minimizing expansion of regulatory T cells. Atezolizumab inhibits the PD-L1 immune checkpoint pathway, thereby restoring anti-tumor T cell activity. The combination is intended to leverage synergistic effects by enhancing effector immune cell activity within the tumor microenvironment and simultaneously releasing immune inhibition. Both agents are being developed primarily for advanced and metastatic solid tumors, though the clinical status of this specific combination is investigational.
