Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Benazepril + hydrochlorothiazide** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination of benazepril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor prodrug, and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Hepatic conversion of benazepril to benazeprilat inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme, reducing angiotensin II formation and aldosterone-mediated vasoconstriction and sodium retention; hydrochlorothiazide inhibits the renal sodium-chloride symporter, increasing sodium and water excretion. The combination is approved for treatment of hypertension and is supplied as oral tablets in multiple strengths.
