benazepril + valsartan

Benazepril + valsartan is a combination of two antihypertensive agents, benazepril and valsartan. Benazepril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that lowers blood pressure by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II from binding to its receptors on blood vessels, also resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. This combination has been studied for its potential nephroprotective effects in patients with type 2 diabetes and nephropathy as well as for prevention of microalbuminuria; however, clinical trials have shown no significant benefit over monotherapy with either agent alone and have raised safety concerns regarding dual renin-angiotensin system blockade[1][2]. The use of this combination is generally not recommended due to the risk of adverse effects such as hyperkalemia and hypotension[3].
