Bencyclane is a small molecule vasodilator primarily used to treat peripheral circulation disorders, such as peripheral vascular disease and Raynaud’s phenomenon. It acts by relaxing blood vessels, improving blood flow, and alleviating symptoms like cold extremities and pain. Its mechanism of action involves blocking calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation. Bencyclane also exhibits antiplatelet, fibrinolytic, antiaggregatory activity, and smooth muscle relaxation. These effects may be mediated through endothelial-derived mechanisms that increase tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and prostacyclin while lowering plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1). The drug is typically administered orally and undergoes hepatic metabolism with renal excretion. Under the trade name Halidor, it has been marketed in several European countries for conditions such as atherosclerosis and occlusive arterial disease[2][5][6][7].
