Overview

This therapeutic regimen, developed by Weill Medical College of Cornell University, is a sequential high-dose chemotherapy protocol followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for the treatment of refractory Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The regimen consists of an initial intensive phase using bendamustine, followed by the standard BEAM conditioning regimen, which includes carmustine, etoposide, cytarabine, and melphalan. Bendamustine serves as a bifunctional alkylating agent with antimetabolite properties, while the BEAM components provide multi-targeted cytotoxic action to eradicate residual malignant cells. Following this intensive conditioning, the patient's previously harvested hematopoietic stem cells are reinfused to restore bone marrow function. This sequential approach is specifically designed to improve complete response rates in patients who have failed standard salvage therapies.
