Bendroflumethiazide + amlodipine is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents used for the management of high blood pressure. Bendroflumethiazide is a thiazide diuretic that acts on the distal convoluted tubules in the kidney to inhibit sodium reabsorption, leading to increased excretion of sodium and water, thereby reducing blood volume and lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. The combination provides additive or synergistic effects for blood pressure reduction, making it effective in patients with moderate to severe hypertension who require more than one agent for adequate control[2][4]. This combination may be particularly useful as initial therapy when rapid or substantial BP reduction is needed.
