Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Benfokit is a commercial generic pharmaceutical product marketed by Learmont Pharmaceuticals, primarily used for the management of diabetic neuropathy and other nerve-related conditions. It is a combination formulation that features benfotiamine, a lipid-soluble derivative of thiamine (vitamin B1) with high bioavailability. Benfotiamine works by activating the enzyme transketolase, which helps divert excess glucose metabolites into safer pathways, thereby reducing the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) that damage nerves and blood vessels. The product also contains alpha-lipoic acid, a potent antioxidant that neutralizes reactive oxygen species, and neurotropic B-vitamins such as methylcobalamin (vitamin B12), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and folic acid, which support myelin sheath synthesis and nerve fiber regeneration.
