Benocef is a brand name for a line of third-generation cephalosporin antibiotics developed and marketed by Bennet Pharmaceuticals. The brand encompasses different active ingredients depending on the formulation: oral versions (such as Benocef 200 DT) typically contain **cefixime**, a third-generation cephalosporin used for respiratory, urinary, and biliary tract infections. The injectable version (Benocef Injection) contains **ceftriaxone**, another third-generation cephalosporin used for severe systemic infections including meningitis and septicemia. Both work by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential enzymes for the cross-linking of the peptidoglycan layer in the bacterial cell wall. This inhibition leads to cell wall instability and subsequent bacterial death.
