Benosone is a topical corticosteroid product developed and marketed by Hoe Pharmaceuticals. The active ingredient is betamethasone valerate at a concentration of 0.12% w/w, which is classified as a potent (Group III) corticosteroid. It exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions by acting as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. Benosone is indicated for the relief of inflammatory manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, including various forms of eczema (atopic, infantile, nummular), contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, solar dermatitis, exfoliative dermatitis, stasis dermatitis, psoriasis, and anogenital and senile pruritus. The product is available in both cream and ointment formulations for topical application to the affected areas.
