Benproperine

Benproperine is a small molecule antitussive (cough suppressant) used for the symptomatic relief of acute and dry cough. It is marketed in several countries in Central America and Europe as phosphate or pamoate salts and is available in tablet or syrup form. Benproperine acts centrally to suppress the cough reflex; its mechanism of action differs from that of opioid antitussives like codeine. Recent research suggests it may also have anticancer properties by inducing autophagy arrest via AMPK/mTOR signaling and interfering with RAB11A-mediated autophagosome–lysosome fusion in pancreatic cancer cells[1][2][5]. The drug belongs to the diphenylmethane class of organic compounds.
