benproperine bromide

Benproperine bromide is a non-narcotic antitussive agent that exerts its effects through both central and peripheral mechanisms. Centrally, it acts on the cough center in the medulla oblongata, while peripherally, it inhibits stretch receptors in the lungs and respiratory tract. Beijing Bridge Biopharmaceutical is developing an intranasal spray formulation of benproperine bromide for the treatment of persistent allergic rhinitis and post-cold rhinitis symptoms. Unlike opioid antitussives, it does not cause respiratory depression or addiction. The drug has been evaluated in pharmacokinetic and drug-drug interaction studies to assess the impact of CYP2D6 inhibition on its safety and metabolism.
