Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination drug consisting of four active ingredients used in the management of respiratory diseases, particularly severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). - **Benralizumab** is a monoclonal antibody that targets and depletes eosinophils by binding to the interleukin-5 receptor alpha (IL-5Rα) on their surface, leading to antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity. It is primarily indicated as an add-on therapy for severe eosinophilic asthma[8][9]. - **Budesonide** is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation by inhibiting multiple types of inflammatory cells and decreasing the production of cytokines involved in airway inflammation[2][3][6]. - **Formoterol** is a long-acting beta2-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA) that causes bronchodilation by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle through stimulation of beta2 receptors. It has both rapid onset and long duration, making it suitable for maintenance therapy as well as symptom relief when combined with an inhaled corticosteroid[4][6][7]. - **Salbutamol** (also known as albuterol) is a short-acting beta2-adrenoceptor agonist (SABA), providing quick relief from acute bronchospasm by rapidly relaxing airway smooth muscle[3][4]. This specific four-drug combination does not currently exist as a single marketed product; however, each component plays a distinct role in modern asthma/COPD management. Benralizumab would be administered separately via injection, while budesonide/formoterol combinations are available for maintenance inhalation therapy, and salbutamol serves as rescue medication.
