Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bensal HP is a topical ointment indicated for the treatment of various dermatological conditions, including dermatitis, pyoderma, and excoriated skin that is slow to heal or vulnerable to infection. It is a combination product containing benzoic acid (6%) and salicylic acid (3%) in a base that includes oak bark extract. Salicylic acid functions as a keratolytic agent, promoting the desquamation of the stratum corneum by solubilizing intercellular cement, while benzoic acid provides antiseptic and antifungal properties. The formulation is designed to manage inflammation, prevent secondary infections, and promote healing in compromised skin. Originally developed by SMG Pharmaceuticals, the product is marketed in the United States by EPI Health.
