Overview

Benzilone (also known as benzilonium) is an antimuscarinic and antispasmodic drug. It acts as a quaternary ammonium compound with minimal passage across the blood-brain barrier, resulting in limited central nervous system effects. Benzilone is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders and has been investigated for its potential in managing respiratory issues due to its anticholinergic properties[3][4][5]. The drug has reached clinical trial phase II for at least one indication.
