Benziodarone is a small molecule drug with multiple pharmacological actions. It acts as a uricostatic and uricosuric agent by inhibiting the production of uric acid and increasing its renal excretion. This makes it effective in the treatment of gout and hyperuricemia[1][2][3]. Additionally, benziodarone has been described as a coronary vasodilator and has shown antiarrhythmic properties by inhibiting potassium channels (I Kr and I Ks), which prolongs cardiac action potentials and refractory periods[2][5]. The drug is also studied for its antioxidant effects due to its ability to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in certain cell types[6]. In therapeutic doses it does not affect blood coagulation or prothrombin levels but can cause jaundice after several weeks of use[2].
