Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Waxout is an otic combination formulation developed by Jainson Biotech for the softening, dissolution, and removal of impacted earwax (cerumen), as well as the relief of associated ear pain and discomfort. The formulation contains four active ingredients: paradichlorobenzene, benzocaine, chlorobutol, and turpentine oil. Paradichlorobenzene acts as a cerumenolytic solvent that disintegrates and softens hard, compacted earwax lipids. Turpentine oil serves as a lubricant and solvent to facilitate the natural clearance of the wax plug. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels on local sensory nerves, thereby alleviating ear pain and irritation. Chlorobutol provides preservative and mild antiseptic actions, preventing microbial growth within the ear canal. Waxout is administered topically as ear drops.
