FPFS-1169 (R(-)-BPAP) is an experimental small molecule monoaminergic activity enhancer (MAE) developed by Fujimoto Pharmaceutical Corporation. It is the R(–)-enantiomer of benzofuranylpropylaminopentane, a compound structurally related to selegiline but possessing a distinct mechanism of action. FPFS-1169 enhances the impulse-propagation-mediated release of neurotransmitters, including dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, without acting as a direct receptor agonist or enzyme inhibitor at low doses. At higher concentrations, it also functions as a reuptake inhibitor for dopamine and norepinephrine. Additionally, the drug has been shown to stimulate the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, suggesting potential neuroprotective properties. FPFS-1169 has been investigated in Phase 2 clinical trials for Parkinson's disease, specifically evaluating subcutaneous administration to determine effective dosing and acute effects on motor symptoms. It has also been explored for potential applications in Alzheimer's disease and depression.
