Overview

This is a combination therapy involving benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, and doxycycline, primarily used in the management of moderate-to-severe acne. Benzoyl peroxide is a topical agent with antibacterial and keratolytic properties that helps keep skin pores clean and reduces the number of acne-causing bacteria. Clindamycin is a topical or systemic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, thereby exerting bacteriostatic (and at higher doses, bactericidal) effects against Propionibacterium acnes[1][2][6]. Doxycycline is an oral tetracycline-class antibiotic that also inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit; it has both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity[3][8]. This triple regimen may be used for severe or treatment-resistant cases where monotherapy or dual therapy are insufficient. The combination aims to maximize efficacy while minimizing resistance development.
