Overview

Benzquinamide is a discontinued antiemetic drug that was primarily used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting associated with anesthesia and surgery, typically administered intramuscularly or intravenously. It possesses antihistaminic, mild anticholinergic, sedative, and possible antipsychotic properties. The mechanism of action is not fully understood but is presumed to involve antagonism of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor and histamine H1 receptor. Benzquinamide was first synthesized by Pfizer in the 1960s for post-operative care[1][2][3][5][7].
