Siccoral is a fixed-dose combination oropharyngeal spray containing the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) benzydamine hydrochloride and the antiseptic chlorhexidine gluconate. Benzydamine provides local analgesic, anesthetic, and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α and IL-1β) and stabilizing cell membranes. Chlorhexidine acts as a broad-spectrum antiseptic by disrupting bacterial cell membranes. Siccoral is primarily used for the symptomatic treatment of inflammatory conditions of the mouth and throat, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, gingivitis, and stomatitis. In clinical settings, it has been evaluated for its efficacy in preventing and relieving postoperative sore throat (POST) following endotracheal intubation, where it is typically administered as a pre-induction spray.
