Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bepantol Derma is a line of topical dermatological and hair-care formulations marketed by Bayer that contain a high concentration of dexpanthenol (pro‑vitamin B5) as the key active ingredient to promote hydration and repair of skin and hair.[8][10][14] Dexpanthenol is rapidly converted in cells to pantothenic acid, a component of coenzyme A that supports epithelial and mucosal metabolism, fibroblast proliferation, and re‑epithelialization, leading to improved barrier function, moisturization, and healing of minor skin damage.[1][4][7] Across its cream/ointment and liquid solutions, Bepantol Derma products are primarily indicated for intensive moisturization, restoration of dry or damaged skin, and capillary (hair) restoration, often in vehicles rich in emollients such as lanolin, petrolatum, mineral oil, and sweet almond oil to enhance barrier repair.[5][8][10][14] The products are sold over the counter for cosmetic and minor dermatologic use rather than as prescription medicines and are typically positioned for daily care of dry, irritated, or chemically/physically stressed skin and hair.[8][10][14]
