Bepotastine is a second-generation, non-sedating antihistamine used primarily in the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis and, in some countries, for allergic rhinitis and urticaria/pruritus. It acts as a selective antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor and also inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells. This dual action helps reduce symptoms such as ocular itching associated with allergies. Bepotastine is available in both ophthalmic (eye drop) and oral formulations. The drug was originally discovered by Ube Industries and co-developed with Tanabe Seiyaku; it is marketed under different brand names depending on region—Bepreve (ophthalmic solution) in the United States and Talion (oral/ophthalmic) in Japan. In the US, it was approved for ophthalmic use by the FDA in 2009[3][6][7].
