Berbamine dihydrochloride is a natural bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid salt derived from the plant *Berberis amurensis*. It exhibits broad-spectrum antitumor activity by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell proliferation across various cancer types, including colorectal, liver, and gastric cancers. Its molecular mechanism involves the inhibition of Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) and the NF-kappaB signaling pathway, as well as the modulation of Bcl-2 family proteins. While its therapeutic potential is significant, its clinical translation has been hampered by poor bioavailability and nonspecific toxicity. Recent research focuses on advanced delivery platforms, such as bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanoparticles (BBM-BSA-NPs), to enhance its solubility, tumor-targeting capability, and safety profile.
