Overview

Berberil N is an ophthalmic decongestant containing tetryzoline hydrochloride, a small molecule alpha-sympathomimetic agent. It is used to provide rapid relief from eye redness and irritation caused by non-specific environmental factors such as smoke, wind, chlorinated water, and light, as well as allergic conjunctivitis. The drug works by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the conjunctival blood vessels, leading to vasoconstriction and reduced hyperemia. Developed by Dr. Gerhard Mann (a Bausch + Lomb company), it is administered topically as eye drops and is approved for use in adults and children from 2 years of age.
