berberine hydrochloride + mesalazine

This is a fixed-dose combination of berberine hydrochloride and mesalazine. Berberine hydrochloride is an isoquinoline alkaloid with broad-spectrum antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antidiarrheal properties, commonly used for gastrointestinal infections such as gastroenteritis and diarrhea. Mesalazine (also known as mesalamine or 5-aminosalicylic acid) is an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug primarily used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The combination has been studied for the treatment of distal ulcerative colitis, where it has shown enhanced efficacy in reducing inflammation markers compared to monotherapy with either agent[1][2][4][7]. Berberine acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis and modulating inflammatory pathways, while mesalazine inhibits cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways in the colon mucosa to reduce prostaglandin production.
