Overview

Berdazimer (as berdazimer sodium) is a first-in-class, topical nitric oxide-releasing antiviral gel indicated for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum (MC) in adult and pediatric patients. Developed using the proprietary NITRICIL technology, the drug consists of a macromolecular polysiloxane scaffold that covalently binds and subsequently releases nitric oxide (NO) when exposed to the skin's pH and moisture. Nitric oxide exerts broad-spectrum antiviral effects by inhibiting viral replication and modulating the local immune response to clear the molluscum lesions. Originally developed by Novan, Inc. under the code SB206, the asset was acquired by Ligand Pharmaceuticals in 2023 and is commercialized by Pelthos Therapeutics. It was approved by the FDA in January 2024 as Zelsuvmi 10.3% gel, making it the first patient-applied prescription treatment for this condition.
