Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bermekimab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and neutralizes interleukin 1 alpha (IL-1α), a pro-inflammatory cytokine implicated in various inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. By inhibiting IL-1α signaling, bermekimab reduces inflammation and modulates immune responses. It was originally developed by XBiotech and has been investigated for multiple indications including atopic dermatitis, systemic scleroderma (systemic sclerosis), colorectal cancer with cachexia, hidradenitis suppurativa, acne vulgaris, plaque psoriasis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis and several other inflammatory or neoplastic conditions. The drug has undergone clinical trials up to phase III in some indications but development has been discontinued or terminated for many of them[2][5][7][8].
