Overview

Bersaldegenin-1,3,5-orthoacetate is a bufadienolide steroid naturally occurring in plants of the *Kalanchoe* genus, such as *Kalanchoe pinnata*. It has been investigated for its potent cytotoxic and antitumor properties, specifically demonstrating high activity against cervical cancer (HeLa) cells in vitro. The compound induces cell death through a caspase-independent pathway characterized by G2/M phase cell cycle arrest, double-stranded DNA damage, and the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Additionally, it has been shown to upregulate the expression of NF-kappa-B inhibitor genes, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory and pro-apoptotic profile.
