Overview

Bet v 1 birch pollen allergen extract is a biologic allergen immunotherapy (AIT) agent consisting of the natural major allergen from birch pollen (*Betula verrucosa*). It is administered via subcutaneous injection (SCIT) to desensitize patients with birch pollinosis. The primary rationale for its use in the BASALIT (Birch Associated Soy Allergy and Immuno-Therapy) trial is to treat pollen-food allergy syndrome, specifically the immediate-type soy allergy caused by cross-reactivity between the birch allergen Bet v 1 and the soy allergen Gly m 4. By modulating the IgE-mediated immune response and inducing immunological tolerance, the extract aims to reduce allergic symptoms triggered by both birch pollen and soy consumption.
