Overview

Beta-BSM is an injectable, nanocrystalline calcium phosphate bone substitute material designed for the repair of bone defects. Developed by Etex Corporation, it is composed of a proprietary synthetic bone mineral that mimics the chemical and structural characteristics of natural bone mineral, specifically poorly crystalline hydroxyapatite (PCA). The material is supplied as a powder and a liquid that, when mixed, form a paste that can be injected directly into a bone void. Once injected, it hardens in situ at body temperature without significant heat generation. Beta-BSM acts as an osteoconductive scaffold, providing a structural matrix that allows for the infiltration of bone-forming cells and subsequent remodeling into native bone over time. It is primarily indicated for filling bone voids or gaps in the skeletal system that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bone structure, such as those found in the extremities, spine, and pelvis.
