Beta-sitosterol

Beta-sitosterol is a plant-derived sterol (phytosterol) structurally similar to cholesterol. It is found in many fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Beta-sitosterol works primarily by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol in the intestines, leading to reduced serum cholesterol levels. This mechanism makes it useful for managing hyperlipidemia and associated cardiovascular risks. Additionally, beta-sitosterol has been used to improve symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), though it does not shrink the prostate gland itself.
