Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Betacid is an over-the-counter (OTC) combination medicine developed by Meditop Pharmaceutical Ltd. for the treatment of gastric disorders associated with a partial or complete lack of stomach acid (gastric anacidity). It is formulated as a granulated powder containing two active ingredients: betaine hydrochloride and pepsin. Betaine hydrochloride serves as a source of hydrochloric acid, helping to restore the acidic environment necessary for proper digestion in the stomach. Pepsin is a proteolytic enzyme that remains active in this acidic environment to facilitate the breakdown of dietary proteins. Originally launched in 1995, Betacid is used to alleviate digestive symptoms resulting from insufficient gastric secretion.
