Overview

Betaglucin is a topical 0.2% soluble gel formulation of beta-glucan, a polysaccharide immunomodulator. Developed by researchers at the Centro de Investigaciones Medicas y Ensayos Clinicos Dr Italo Fabbri (CIMIF), it is designed to treat human papillomavirus (HPV)-related anogenital warts. The drug works by enhancing the local immune response, specifically by increasing the activity and presence of macrophages and Natural Killer (NK) cells. It has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials comparing its efficacy to Imiquimod 5% cream, although the trial was reportedly stopped in 2019.
