BetaGraft is a xenogeneic cell therapy candidate being developed by Beta-Cell NV for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. The product consists of porcine-derived endocrine cells, specifically insulin-producing beta cells and glucagon-producing alpha cells, which are isolated and prepared using the proprietary BetaPrep process. These cells are formulated within a biocompatible gel matrix and implanted subcutaneously. The mechanism of action involves the physiological secretion of insulin and glucagon in response to blood glucose levels, thereby replacing the lost endocrine function of the pancreas and restoring glycemic control. BetaGraft is currently in the preclinical stage of development and aims to provide a functional cure by mimicking the natural endocrine regulation of the pancreas.
